McDonald’s Drive-Thru Accident: A Vancouver man was killed by his own vehicle while passing through a McDonald’s drive-thru on Wednesday morning, Acc to police.

The man was reportedly paying for his food when he dropped his bank card around 5:30 a.m. He opened the door and try to pick up the card, at which point the still-moving car rolled forward, pinning him against a structural piece of the restaurant. The driver was unable to free himself. He died on the spot.

Vancouver Police Constable Tania Visintin said it was a tragic scene for the victim’s family and the staff, who witnessed the death.

“This is an absolutely heartbreaking scenario. Our deepest condolences go out to the family and friends of this man,” she said in a statement.

“People aren’t used to seeing this type of incident happen, especially at your workplace. I would assume everyone is shaken up,” Visintin told 680 News. She said victim services will be made available to staff.

“Usually when we hear about a fatal motor vehicle accident it’s usually, typically a crash with another vehicle. So the fact that no other vehicle was involved… this seems like a freak accident,” she continued.

The VPD’s Collision Investigation Unit and BC Coroner Services are now investigating this case.

If anyone with dash-cam footage who was driving in the area at the time of the incident, or who may have witnessed the event, is being asked to call investigators at 604-717-3012.
